Dennis Bonnen was sworn in as Texas Speaker of the House on January 8, 2019 after serving more than 20 years as a member of that body representing the 25th House district. During his tenure, the plain-spoken conservative served in a variety of key roles including Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Born and raised on the Texas Gulf Coast, he embodies the Texas model of the citizen legislator, building a successful career in banking while fulfilling his duties in the Texas House. Bonnen graduated cum laude from St. Edward's University in Austin with a B.A. in Political Science before being elected to office at age 24. He and his wife, Kim, are raising two teenaged sons.
