Matthew Walter is the President of the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC), the largest organization to support state elections across the country.
Prior to being named RSLC president, most recently Matt served as RSLC Managing Director of Communications and Political Affairs and as political director for the 2012 election cycle. In these roles, he co-created record political spending in the RSLC's $39 million political budget and oversaw all aspects of implementation in a record 42 states. Matthew also launched and managed the Future Majority Project, Right Women/Right Now, the launch of Crossroads Generation and RSLC's communications efforts. During the 2012 election cycle, the Future Majority Project supported the successful elections of 15 new Hispanic legislators which led to a net increase of the caucus and 84 new women officials in state offices across the country. For the 2014 cycle, the Future Majority Project is on target to recruit, train and support 300 new women candidates and 200 new diverse candidates across the nation.
Prior to joining the RSLC, Matthew served the New York State Republican Party for four years as Executive Director, Director of Strategic Planning and Communications Director. Preceding that, he served in the New York State Senate Majority Communications Department for eleven years in a variety of positions, most recently as the Assistant Press Secretary for the Senate Majority.
Matthew’s political experience began to 1988 and includes directly working on campaigns at the local, county, state and federal level. He has served dozens of campaigns in all major capacities from volunteer to campaign manager for statewide office.
Over the past 20 years, Matthew has served or volunteered with numerous governmental, political, media and charitable organizations, including Public Information Officer for the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office, Advisory Board Member of the Saratoga County Salvation Army, New York State Attorney General’s Consumer Fraud and Protection Bureau, the Syracuse Newspapers and WMHT public television.
Matthew received his Bachelor in Arts from State University of New York at Geneseo, graduating with a dual major in Political Science and French. He received the Diplome pour the Troisieme Niveau from the Institute de Touraine in Tours, France. Matthew successfully completed his Masters’ degree work in American Political History at the College of Saint Rose. He has frequently presented his research on the development of, and media usage by, third parties in the American political system—specifically the Antimasonic Party during the Jacksonian Era.
